What is culture?

Most people think of culture as the customs of other countries – you know Mexican culture, Indian culture, Asian culture, etc. While this is all true it is also something a company has – huh?  Think about it.  Each company you have every worked at – felt different, had people with different personalities, and treated people differently.  Now does it sound familiar?

Want to figure out what your company culture is?

Grab a piece of paper and jot down no more than 10 words to describe either:

• the company,
• the people who work there,
• the customer expectations

Was 10 words too many or not enough.  No real magic in the numbers, its more about using one word adjectives. Here’s the tough question – do you like what you see?

If not, work on changing it (see our previous post Can you change company culture? )

If you do – great!

These words –  lets call them values (as in what is valued) can now be used to recruit employees and evaluate employees.  More on that in future posts.

These values will guide your company, employees, and customers.  Choose and live them wisely.
